‘Hold it’ plays with the layered meanings of command, restraint, and reward. Made of chew sticks from animal parts, the objects could be perceived as toys, massagers, or training devices. By mimicking a friendly, domestic appearance, it blurs care and control, teasing the boundary between pleasure and discipline.
